Help:Templates
Templates are used to insert recurring messages to pages in a consistent way.
The Off The Record uses the 'sourcelist' template at the top of all pages dervied from searchroom source lists to indicate to readers that the information may be incomplete or out of date.
When the template is updated, all pages containing the template tag will automatically be updated.
How do I insert a template?
- Add the template name to the page between double curly brackets:
{{sourcelist}}
- This will result in the following text appearing on the page:
The following source list was originally available only on paper in one of the West Yorkshire Archive Service offices. It may have been compiled many years ago and could be out of date. It was designed to act as a signpost to records of interest on a particular historical subject, but may relate only to one West Yorkshire district, or be an incomplete list of sources available. Please feel free to add or update with any additional information. |
How do I create a new template?
- Create a new page with a title beginning 'Template:'.
- Add your text and save the template page
- Your template is now ready for use.
