Electoral Registers: West Riding Division

Following the Representation of the People Act 1832 the quarter sessions clerk of the peace was obliged to compile a list of all those eligible to vote on a county basis. The resulting volumes of electoral registers contain all enfranchised persons registered in the county of the West Riding.

Between 1844 and 1865 the West Riding electoral registers are split into two volumes. Polling districts starting with a letter at the beginning of the alphabet are to be found in Volume 1, while districts starting with a letter at the end of the alphabet can be found in Volume 2. Please be aware the alphabetical split is not always consistent and can change from volume to volume (see the list below for more information). From 1862 the West Riding was also split into North and South divisions, with the addition of the East Division in 1869.
