The following source list was originally available only on paper in one of the West Yorkshire Archive Service offices. It may have been compiled many years ago and could be out of date. It was designed to act as a signpost to records of interest on a particular historical subject, but may relate only to one West Yorkshire district, or be an incomplete list of sources available. Please feel free to add or update with any additional information. |
Poll Books are lists of voters which show how each elector voted in elections. They are usually arranged alphabetically and give details of each voter's address. An analysis of the poll is given at the end of some volumes.
Pre 1832 the only people eligible to vote were 40 shilling freeholders, people who able to vote because they possessed freehold land worth at least 40s per year in rent. This meant the vast majority of the population was not eligible to vote.
