Electoral registers were not compiled during the two World War hostilities 1916-1917 or 1940-1944. Following WWI and WWII absent voters were sometimes defined by an 'A' next to their name in the County electoral registers; however please note the County electoral registers held by WYAS: Wakefield do not include information on absent voters' regiments or service numbers.

We do however have a separate absent voters list for the West Riding for 1937-1939 (ref: WYAS: Wakefield WYAS934).

A database of absent voters compiled from the 1918/19 Leeds Borough registers is available at Leeds Local Studies Library. A similar list for the Wakefield Borough 1918 is available here. Please see here for an explanation of the difference between the County and Borough electoral registers.
